McDonald's Hacking Raises Alarm for Crypto Investors
Yesterday's hacking of the official McDonald's account underscores the cunning tactics employed by malicious actors in the cryptocurrency realm. The incident involved the promotion of a fraudulent meme cryptocurrency, dubbed "Grimace Coin," on the Solana blockchain.
Dogecoin Creator's Reaction
Billy Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, creator of Dogecoin, expressed his disbelief at the incident. He asserted that investors who purchased the token either understood the speculative nature of the market or were highly gullible.
Hacking Details
The attackers leveraged McDonald's official Twitter account and the marketing director's personal account to disseminate information about Grimace Coin. The market capitalization of the scam token surged to $30 million, resulting in approximately $700,000 in profits for the perpetrators.
McDonald's Response
McDonald's remains silent on the hacking, and all related posts have been removed. This is not an isolated incident, highlighting the importance of exercising caution when encountering promotional messages, even if they appear to originate from official sources.
