Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Declares Himself a Dogecoin Holder
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin made a dramatic appearance at the 2024 Ethereum Development Conference (EDCON) in Tokyo, Japan, where he revealed himself as a Dogecoin (DOGE) holder.
Buterin's interest in the meme coin dates back to 2016, when he invested $25,000 in DOGE. In 2021, he joined the advisory board of the Dogecoin Foundation.
During his presentation at EDCON, Buterin appeared on stage wearing a dark kimono with a white horse head mask. When questioned about his identity, he removed the mask and declared, "I'm a Dogecoin holder."
Buterin's announcement sparked laughter and curiosity among attendees, who had speculated about his support for DOGE prior to the event.
In the past, Buterin has expressed his interest in meme coins, particularly Dogecoin. He discussed his 2016 investment in DOGE on a Lex Friedman podcast in 2021, revealing that it had grown to over $4.3 million.
Buterin's Continued Support for DOGE
Buterin has demonstrated his commitment to Dogecoin through various initiatives. In 2022, he donated $1 million worth of Ethereum to the Dogecoin Foundation. He also donated 20 million DOGE to the foundation and joined its advisory board.
Buterin's Stance on Shiba Inu
While Buterin has not expressed the same level of support for Shiba Inu (SHIB), he acknowledges its success. After receiving half of SHIB's supply, Buterin burned $410 trillion worth and donated the remainder to charities.
Market Outlook for DOGE
According to crypto analyst Ali Martinez, Dogecoin is poised for a significant surge. Martinez predicts a rally of between 140% and 230%, followed by a retracement of 56% to 60% before another bull run.
At the time of writing, Dogecoin is trading at $0.1162, down 3% in the last 24 hours and 10% in the last week.
