Pro-Crypto Republican Senate Candidate Accuses Warren of Lobbying for Big Banks
John Deaton, the Republican nominee for the Massachusetts Senate seat, has criticized Democratic incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren for allegedly lobbying for large financial institutions. In a recent statement, Deaton asserted that Warren is "America's number one lobbyist for Big Banks."
"Never pay attention to what career politicians like @ewarren say - pay attention to what they do," Deaton tweeted. He pointed to Warren's past statements criticizing banking executives for their role in the 2008 financial crisis but subsequent support for their bailouts.
Deaton, a prominent cryptocurrency lawyer and advocate, further alleged that Warren's policies protect the current financial system at the expense of innovation in the crypto industry.
Warren's Anti-Crypto Stance
Warren has repeatedly expressed concerns about cryptocurrencies, claiming that they are primarily used for illicit activities. She has also criticized crypto executives for supporting Deaton's campaign.
"A small handful of crypto billionaires" have contributed over $2 million to Deaton's campaign, according to Warren. She maintains that these individuals seek to influence cryptocurrency policy in the United States.
Deaton's nomination victory and Warren's subsequent criticism underscore the ongoing debate over the future of cryptocurrency regulation in the U.S.
