Kabosu, the beloved Shiba Inu whose iconic image became synonymous with the "Doge" meme and sparked the creation of Dogecoin, has passed away at the age of 18. Her owner, Atsuko Sato, announced the sad news on May 24, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support Kabosu had received throughout her life. A farewell gathering in honor of "Kabo-chan" will be held on May 26 at Flower Kaori in Narita City.

"Today, Kabosu, our community's shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person," the Dogecoin team tweeted. "The impact this one dog has made across the world is immeasurable. She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love."

Kabosu first gained internet stardom in 2010 through Sato's blog photos, particularly one capturing her skeptical yet curious expression. This image quickly became the face of the "Doge" meme, which spread rapidly online, often accompanied by humorous Comic Sans replies.
