Solana Meme Coin Generator Pump.fun Suspends Live Streaming Amidst Abuse Concerns
Pump.fun, a Solana meme coin generator, has indefinitely suspended its live streaming feature due to a surge of inappropriate content on the platform.
Live Streaming Misuse
Initially introduced earlier this year, live streaming was intended to allow users to promote their newly launched meme coins. However, creators exploited Pump.fun's limited moderation capabilities to disseminate "heinous" content solely to inflate the value of their cryptocurrencies.
Reports of live streams containing child abuse, bestiality, and suicide threats have surfaced, prompting concerns from users.
Moderation Infrastructure Upgrade
In response, Pump.fun announced that it would be "pausing the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite period of time." The team acknowledged that the platform's "heightened levels of activity" had overwhelmed its moderation infrastructure. Live streaming will be reinstated once the infrastructure is upgraded to address the influx of content.
Potential Legal Implications
Legal experts warn that Pump.fun's recent spate of abusive content could attract the attention of regulatory authorities. Yuriy Brisov, a partner at Digital and Analogue Partners, told Cointelegraph that the situation could warrant criminal investigations and civil lawsuits.
