Founder and frontman of the Ethereum blockchain, Vitalik Buterin, expressed his condolences on the social media platform X for the passing of the legendary meme Shiba Inu dog, Kabosu.
Vitalik Buterin Pays Tribute to Kabosu
Buterin tweeted "Rest in peace Kabochan" in response to Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato (@kabosumama), announcing the Shiba Inu's passing at the age of 19. Kabosu became an internet sensation in 2010 with her viral photos. In 2013, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer created Dogecoin (DOGE), the first meme cryptocurrency, inspired by the "Doge" meme featuring Kabosu. Kabosu became the mascot of DOGE, gaining immense popularity within the rapidly growing Dogecoin community.

Musk tweeted that Kabosu had "ascended to heaven," while the DOGE creator shared a meme depicting Kabosu conversing with Death, who proclaims, "I'm told you were the best."
Buterin's respect for the DOGE community is not new. The Ethereum founder has made significant donations to the Dogecoin Foundation. In 2021, Buterin joined the organization, proposing improvements for DOGE, including its transition from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake algorithm.
